Žofia Bosniaková was born on 2 June 1609 in Šurany. She was the third of the seven children of Tomáš Bosniak and Mária Kenderessyová. At the time of her birth, her father was a captain at the Castle of Šurany. With his family, he later moved to Fiľakovo to become a captain of the Fiľakovo fortress. At the age of seventeen, Žofia married Baron Michal Serényi and left for Světlov Castle in Bojkovice, Moravia.
