Each year a new Europa issue is published which is based upon a theme suggested by PostEurope, an organisation of European post operators. Members of PostEurope can then determine whether the theme will be included in the plan of their country’s issues of postage stamps to be published during the following year; they may also elect to use the same artistic design. Slovakia has successfully included the varying suggested themes for some years now. The present Europa issue is called Holiday, which is represented by a castle, dove, butterfly and flowers. On the FDC there is a girl with a dove and the cancellation depicts a bird flying over the mountain. The author captured the holiday spirit – contentment, freedom and harmony.
