Races at Mojmírovce This stamp is issued on the occasion of the 180.th anniversary of the oldest races in central Europe, held on the estate of Count Jozef Hunyady at Mojmírovce, then Urmín, 15 kilometres south of Nitra. The first season of meetings began on 19* May 1814. A 2,600-metre-long course was laid on Hunyady property between Poľný Kesov and Veľká Dolina. The meetings became increasingly popular. In 1816 around 40,000 visitors attended the races, including many Imperial archdukes. At that time distance races were also held over two routes: Budapest -Urmín, Urmín - Vienna. The most famous horse to come from Mojmírovce's stud farm was called Tajár, the winner of numerous races. Its skeleton has been preserved at Vienna's veterinary museum. The stamp features a drawing of this horse based on a picture of the period. The FDC design features the chateau at Mojmírovce with its adjacent park.
