The Rotunda of St. George is one of the most beautiful and precious Romanesque buildings in Slovakia. It is situated on a hill near the city of Skalica, on the outskirts of an ancient Slavonic fortress. This was the boundary between the Hungarian Kingdom and the Moravian County. The rotunda was built as a little church of the fortress at the beginning of the 13th century, built from sandstone ashlars.
