The sport of volleyball made its appearance at the end of the 19" century in the USA. It was at Holyhoke in 1895 that W. G. Morgan introduced a game in which a ball was hit over a raised tennis net. The game quickly found favour -particularly with the YMCA, which popularised it beyond the USA. An event of great significance for the promotion of volleyball was the establishment in Paris in 1947 of the FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball - International Volleyball Federation ).
